Here we are—New Year’s Eve. Good bye 2019! 2020 is already here in some parts of the world. Yay for the roaring 20’s!
And here we go, with talk of resolutions, intentions, and visioning. Ugh. Excuse my lack of enthusiasm. There’s this overwhelming feeling. “Let’s change ourselves! It’s a new decade—make it a BIG change!”
I’m going to go out on a limb here and remind you that nobody likes change. Oh, we try to make it positive. We call it “bettering ourselves,” and “a chance to start anew.” Eh, let’s be honest: Resolutions and intentions and visioning are often just our way of making thinly veiled judgements about our bad behaviors, our body image, and our natural tendencies.
I for one don’t want to judge myself. I want to believe I’m terrific. Okay, I might not be terrific, but I still want to think highly of myself! I want to believe good things about myself. I want to love myself. There, I said it.
Friends, what if the only goal or resolution we set for 2020 was to love ourselves more?
I can hear you now, “Oh, Pollyanna, settle down…”
No really, what if we loved ourselves the way God, Spirit, Universe, Source loves us? You know…
You do know that no matter what we do, no matter what we look like, no matter what we’ve accomplished…We. Are. Loved. Take that into your consciousness for a moment. Put your hand on your heart. Close your eyes as you say to yourself, “I am the child of God, filled and surrounded by the peace of God. God is love, and God is guiding me now.” (From The Golden Key, by Emmet Fox)
A new year is a great thing to celebrate. It’s a great thing to commemorate. Change can be great, even though most of us don’t like it. Heraclitus once said, “The only thing that is constant is change," but I think he was wrong. It’s not the only thing. There is another thing that’s constant.
It’s God (Spirit, Universe, Source…you know the drill. Insert your word of choice.)
God is constant. God is with us, through all our changes. The year may change. The decade may change. Maybe even YOU will change, but God never changes. God’s love for us NEVER CHANGES.
Let’s take THAT with us into 2020. Let’s resolve to remember how loved we are and love ourselves in the same way.
Focus on THAT, and all good things will be added unto you.
Blessings, and Happy New Year!
